History
Flossmoor is a small town with a long history. The city was founded in 1893 by the Illinois Central Railroad, which was looking to create a commuter suburb for Chicago residents. The railroad vigorously promoted Flossmoor, even running free-lunch excursions for prospective buyers from Chicago. Residential construction was picked up after 1910, and by World War I, the upper-middle-class community had been firmly established, including some of the railroad’s executives. Flossmoor is today a diverse and inclusive community. The village has a strong sense of community, and residents are proud of their town’s history and character. Flossmoor is a great place for families, retirees, and young professionals alike to live. The village offers a variety of amenities, including excellent schools, parks, and recreation facilities.
