Peru City is located in Miami County, Indiana, along the Wabash River, about 73 miles North of Indianapolis. Peru is also the part of the Kokomo-Peru Combined Statical Area.
History
It was founded in 1834 and named after the country of Peru because it was thought that the city resembled the landscape of Peru country. The city grew rapidly due to its location on the Wabash and Erie Canals and gradually became a hub for transportation and industry.
