About Naperville
More than 2.7 million people live in Naperville, a large suburb of Chicago. This area consistently ranks among the best communities in the country. The city’s namesake, Joseph Naper, founded it in 1831.
The foundation of the future city was laid by Naper and his brother, who built mills, schools, and trading posts. As of 1832, the city had a population of over 100. 1857 was the year that Naperville became a village. DuPage County was formed in 1839 by the creation of Naperville. Naperville became a transportation hub in the late 1800s with the arrival of railroads.
